History

Our club night is on Thursday evenings 8-10.30pm, the club runs throughout the year, including the summer months. The club does close for Easter and Christmas, and very occasionally on other Thursday's as required by the school, such as exams, exhibitions and school productions.

The quarterly fees, payable in advance, are £35. The fees for full time junior member (usually still at college/university) is £25 per quarter. The cost for junior 'colts' is £20 per quarter.

The adult club is particularly keen to recruit ladies, please contact Lee Machin if you are interested.

The format on club night is always mixed or level doubles, occasionally singles, but generally we have insufficient court space to play singles. The club made the transition (as from the 2004-5 season) to playing with feather shuttles, and this proved very successful.

The club operates a peg board system. Players place their name on the peg board on arrival, the first player in the queue picks an additional three players from the following six to make up a doubles match. Pegs are returned to the back of the queue on completing their game.

The club has two groups of players, Adults and Junior Colts (predominantly age 14 to 17).

The Adult members attend club nights to play games and hopefully develop their game, with assistance from resident coaches if required. The teams that are fielded during a season are mens, ladies & mixed, and are currently situated in high league positions in both the Cradley and Worcestershire leagues.

In addition, there is also the younger junior club, the "South Birmingham Junior Badminton Club", the predominant age range here is 8 to 15 years. Juniors progress into the colts on Thursday evenings on reaching an acceptable standard.

Key Objectives

We aim to provide badminton to the Birmingham and Worcester communities of all ages, develop their skills through the use of internal/external coaches, and give each member the opportunity to experience league badminton. We are a well established club that maintains a high level of badminton and so we encourage and nurture each members game to the best of their ability.

Through a successful lottery application we were awarded, in 2002, over £4100.00 to promote and develop Badminton as a sport in and around the local community. The funds were divided by 3 key area’s :- External/Resident coaching, Website development (from which you are now seeing the benefit) and Publicity /Advertising. Our aim has always been to make Colmers Farm the main centre for badminton in Birmingham.
