Junior colts - coaching

Thursday colts -  Planner January – April 2010

Undertake ‘Bleep test’ approx every 4 weeks – see Glen if you need the Bleep test CD.

Focus for this period is on backhand shots, a weak area for many – please read up on technique for the coached shot, or the ‘Technique DVD’, or www.badminton.tv . Occnl tactics coaching as and when.

Use 'IDEAS' - Introduce, Demonstrate, Explain, Activity, Summarise

Technique for each shot: Hand feed to static position. Bring in movement. Add in targets. Racket feed with additional shots. Closed/open rally. Dependent (conditional) rallies.

Colts – individual ‘goals’ for this term

The colts have individual areas to work on. I have set each of the colts a goal (or two) for the coming term - an area of weakness they need to concentrate on.

Michelle

When shuttle lifted to opponents, not to stand in FC - step back/move to sides defense with partner. To return to FC at earliest opportunity when playing mixed (usually when shuttle has dropped below net tape on opponents side)

James D

When shuttle lifted to opponents, not to stand in FC - step back/move to sides defense with partner.

Racket pointing forward in ready position.

James S

Moving forward after net return, especially after receiving low serve.

Improve consistency/accuracy of B/H low serve

Matthew

Change to basic grip (currently 'fist' grip). This is a big change (I'll book a one to one session with him to help with this)

Stand further forward when receiving serve i.e. One and a half feet from service line.

George

Taking shuttle earlier and higher

Movement to the FC if partner receives lift to RC

Dani

When shuttle lifted to opponents, not to stand in FC - step back/move to sides defense with partner.

All

Taking shuttle as high as possible (i.e. moving feet to take earlier)

Hitting down (minimise lifting), hitting to spaces

Communication with doubles partner i.e. shouting 'sides', 'front' etc.
