Focus on technique - forehand shots. To be used in singles environment. Occasional tactics coaching as and when.

Use 'IDEAS' - Introduce, Demonstrate, Explain, Activity, Summarise

Technique for each shot:

Hand feed to static position. Bring in movement. Occnl targets.

Racket feed with additional shots. Closed/open rally. Dependent rallies.

9th September

Grips – 5 types, tightening on impact

Use of 3 main grips (F/H &B/H thumb drip, pan handle). Changing grip. Subsequent shot anticipation.

16th September

Base position. Split-drop (exact timing of this).

Fluid (rather than static) base depending on situation, time & individual. Singles & doubles base. Splitting in direction of movement to increase speed (& pressure opponent).

25th September

Movement/step patterns to 4 corners (discovery ?). Recovery step.

Increasing speed around court to get to shot early – pressure opponent.

30th September

Doubles tactics – low serve (B/H & F/H) and subsequent movement. Laws (recent changes).

As building shot. Slight variations to give elements of uncertainty for opponent. Pressuring receiver after serve.

7th October

Doubles tactics – return of low serve (to FC, MC, RC). Stance and ready position.

Taking shuttle high & early to gain initiative. Subsequent movement of receiver. Receiving serve in mixed (especially man) and his/her subsequent movement.

14th October

Doubles tactics – flick serve. Technique, consistency and accuracy. When to use.

Building shot. Replies to flick serve & pressuring opponent.

21st October

4th November

Doubles tactics – court positioning. Front and back attack.

Hitting down to keep initiative/win point. Attempted winners.

11th November

Doubles tactics – court positioning, sides defence. How to defend, defending strokes. Replying to smash, drop shot etc.

Varying according to hitter’s position. Where to defend shuttle to. Front on and sides on defence. How to re-gain the initiative.

18th November

Opponent awareness – hitting spaces.

 

Where to return the shuttle to (to point furthest away, to space opponent has just left, in a different direction to opponents travel).

25th November

Hitting action. Start-approach-hit-recover.

Hit phase - racket angle, supination/pronation, racket strings, elbow, hip through, feet. Body rotation.

2nd December

Singles tactics and court positioning

Deception, shot selection, movement and base position

9th December

Tournament/club competition

 

16th December

Fun day/games/practises, prize giving & awards. Evaluation.
